SCDEW reports decrease in initial unemployment insurance claims filed last week

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce says there was a decrease in the number of first time unemployment insurance claims filed last week. From April 10-16, SCDEW says 1,673 initial unemployment insurance claims were filed in the Palmetto State, a decrease from the 2,017 claims filed the previous week.

Last week, SCDEW says 4,769 claimants received an average benefit of $278.61.

Since March 15, 2020, SCDEW says it has paid out $6,622,488,174.22 to claimants.
