SCDEW: Record number of SC residents quit jobs in March
Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– Officials with the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce say the so-called “Great Resignation” has hit the Palmetto State, but that doesn’t mean people are walking out on work entirely.
According to the agency in March of ’22 90,000 people quit their jobs which is a record, however, 122,000 people were hired.
Officials say that suggests that people are leaving lower paying jobs for jobs with higher wages.
According to the department, the phenomenon has also resulted in a significant wage increase of more than 29% over the past two years as employers work to stay ahead of the curb and retain employees.
Officials say the lucrative job market has also lead to a drop in the unemployment in the state which is now 3.3% and the number of people working in the state has never been higher.
