(CNN)—Apple’s cutting the cord to some of it’s older iPad models that use it’s Apple SIM card for cell service.
The company will no longer activate new cell service on it’s older models, but they will still be operable using WiFi and existing service plans. For iPads less than four years old, it makes no difference.
Those models are equipped with e-SIMS which are embedded directly into the devices and mobile carriers can still activate those.
If you do have an old iPad that needs new cell service, contact your carrier directly. Some of them may be able to use their own SIM cards for activation.
