Lexington residents vote against tax raise to fix roadways

Lexington County voters have voted against a tax raise to fix the roads and bridges.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— Lexington County residents have voted against a tax raise to fix the roads and bridges. At least 54% of people voted against the measure.

The initiative was led by the Lexington Chamber and Visitor Center, local chambers of commerce, and other supporters.

The coalition of community leaders say the 1% sales and local use tax would have funded projects on roads, bridges, and intersection improvements.

Opponents say they believe there is a way to fund the projects without raising taxes.
