COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Santa is making a special visit to Brennen Elementary to spend time with 10 deaf students at the school. He will read, sing carols and pass out gifts to the lucky students.
He will be present at Brennen’s media center for the annual Signing Santa on Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and will be communicating with students in American Sign Language.
In a release, early childhood deaf education teacher Dr. Emilee McAbee says, “This event is so important to our students because it is an opportunity to share a version of Santa Claus that is completely accessible to them.” McAbee helped organize the event.
The Richland Sertoma Club, one of the oldest civic clubs in Columbia, has been sponsoring the event for about 20 years.
