SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)— Sumter deputies arrested 22 year-old Jaden Neal Shepard on trafficking marijuana charges.
On Feb. 13, Sumter County Deputy Jeffrey Hofer observed a vehicle traveling 87 mph in a 60 mph zone near Highway 527.
Deputy Hofer stopped the vehicle and smelled an overwhelming odor of an air freshener as he spoke to the driver, say officials.
He asked the consent to search, but the suspect denied the search on his vehicle. A trained and certified K-9 was deployed and indicated on the vehicle. A probable cause search was enacted.
During the search, authorities say 45 bags of marijuana weighing 65.4 pounds was discovered as well as cash in the amount of $6, 890.
Shepard was issued a speeding citation and transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
