SCEMD to host military installations seminar

Military installation representatives are set to meet with state and county emergency managers this Thursday as part of a disaster preparedness seminar.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— Military installation representatives are set to meet with state and county emergency managers this Thursday as part of a disaster preparedness seminar.

The S.C. Emergency Management Division is hosting the event where attendees can discuss lessons learned during Hurricane Ian response and other emergencies involving federal military installations and local governments.

Representatives of active duty, Reserve and National Guard will attend the event as well as military personnel from the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard and Army Corps of Engineers from Fort Jackson, Shaw Air Force Base and other installations.

The seminar will include remarks by Major General Van McCarty, Adjutant General for South Carolina, and Kim Stenson, SCEMD Director.

The agenda will also include a preview of South Carolina’s full-scale disaster preparedness exercise.

The event is scheduled for March 7-9, which will test the state and local capabilities to respond to the consequences of a major disaster.

The seminar will be held on Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2779 Fish Hatchery Road in West Columbia.
