FORT JACKSON, S.C. (WOLO)— The public is invited to a free, up-close night view of Fort Jackson’s Basic Combat Training on Feb. 28. The deadline to sign up is Feb. 24 and registration is required.

The base is hosting a Come Meet Your Army tour to give local citizens the opportunity to see how soldiers train and an inside look of the day-to-day operations.

Interested locals will meet at the Fort Jackson Non-commissioned Officer Club on 5700 Lee Road where they will be briefed about the bases’ mission and training at the Night Infiltration Course.

The group will have the chance to speak with drill sergeants and learn about battlefield equipment. The individuals will then travel by bus to watch basic combat soldiers move under direct, live machine gun fire, say officials.

The tour begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.

To register or learn more, click Fort Jackson Tour (Night Infiltration Course) (afit.edu) or call Fort Jackson’s Community Relations Office at 803-751-1474.

You must bring a copy of your invitation and a valid ID to gain access to Fort Jackson. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended for this event.
