AG Wilson: State Grand jury issues second tax evasion indictment against Alex Murdaugh
SC Attorney General Alan Wilson says the SC State Grand Jury issued a new indictment against Alex Murdaugh.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)— SC Attorney General Alan Wilson says the SC State Grand Jury issued a new indictment against Alex Murdaugh.
The convicted killer was indicted for an additional two counts of Willful Attempt to Evade or Defeat a Tax.
The indictment alleges tax evasion for tax years 2020 and 2021. According to the Office of Attorney General Alan Wilson, Murdaugh failed to report approximately $2 million on income earned through illegal acts. This caused state taxable income to be under reported to the State of South Carolina in the mount $132,572.
The crimes charged in the indictment carry the following penalties:
- Willful Attempt to Evade or Defeat a Tax is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or fine of up to $10,000 plus the cost of prosecution
