Satterfield attorneys discuss Murdaugh’s latest court filing

This comes after a recent filing where Murdaugh suggests the insurance company look at the Satterfield family for the nearly 4 million dollars.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – The attorneys for the Satterfield family are discussing developments surrounding the ongoing lawsuit between Alex Murdaugh and the Nautilus Insurance Company. This comes after a recent filing where Murdaugh suggests the insurance company look at the Satterfield family for the nearly 4 million dollars.

Gloria Satterfield, Murdaugh’s former housekeeper, died in 2018 after a fall at the Murdaugh’s home.  After her death Alex Murdaugh claimed he worked with her family to get them a settlement from his policy with Nautilus insurance. However, the Satterfield family says they never received any settlement and Murdaugh later admitted he owed them millions.

In a lawsuit, the insurance company is seeking to recover from Murdaugh the 3.8 million dollars paid in the settlement of Gloria’s case. Murdaugh who is in prison for the murders of his wife Maggie and son Paul answered the lawsuit last Monday.

“Now incredibly in answering the lawsuit Murdaugh claims now for the first time the he quote invented the critical facts to the Satterfield claim and that no dogs were involved in Glorias death,” says Attorney Ronnie Ritcher, who is an attorney for the Satterfield family.

The Satterfield’s family attorney releasing an audio interview and investigative reports from 2018 where Alex, Paul, and Maggie said they heard Gloria mention something about dogs contributing to her fall.

“As if he has not caused enough damage to the Satterfield family, Murdaugh took an additional step in the lawsuit – although he didn’t have to – of suggesting by way of defense that because he successfully stole the money, because that money is gone, and because the Satterfields were successful for obtaining money from other sources that Nautilus should look to the Satterfields to get back the money that Alex stole,” says Attorney Ritcher.

The attorneys calling Alex Murdaugh a documented liar and saying the continued attacks on the Satterfields can not and will not be ignored.

“If somebody really want to look at the origins of the Nautilus money and where it went . . perhaps Dick and Jim should add themselves as a party to the case because the money, the $3.8 million was stolen in May of 2019. What happened around May of 2019? Paul was charged with the DUI boating accident of Mallory Beach. What did Alex and Paul do? They retained Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian for what were told was for $500,000, where did that $500,000 come from? Are those ill gotten gains from Nautilus Insurance Company?,”says Attorney Eric Bland, who is an attorney for the Satterfield family.

Jim Griffin and Dick Harpootlian are Murdaugh’s attorneys. ABC Columbia reached out to them but was told they have no comment on the matter.
