DHEC: Report shows decline in prescription drug use in 2022

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)—A new report released this morning shows a decline in the overall number of prescription drugs filled in the state in 2022.

Each year DHEC produces the South Carolina Prescription Monitoring Report to help keep track of a person’s medication history across the state to ensure patient safety.

Officials say while there has been a decline in use, they continue to monitor the use of stimulants, as they become the number one controlled substance filled in SC.

Adderall has had a 29% increase in prescriptions from 2018 to 2022.

DHEC reminds anyone experiencing substance abuse issues that help is available.
