UPDATE: Newberry deputies arrest 67 year-old male for murder; victim identified

NEWBERRY, S.C. (WOLO)– Newberry deputies arrested 67-year old Ollie Lindler on for the offense of Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime.
Authorities say around 8:35 p.m. a 911 call reported two individuals engaged in an altercation on Langford Street in Prosperity. One of the subjects was armed with a knife.
Before deputies arrived on scene, a 31 year-old victim was found unresponsive and stabbed on a front lawn.
Medical attention was given to the victim and they were pronounced dead on the scene.
The Newberry Coroner identified the deceased as Derrell Levon Long.
Witnesses say the altercation and stabbing took place after Lindler and Long were arguing over a beer Lindler consumed, according to the Newberry Co. Sheriff’s Office.
Lindler is currently detained at Newberry County Detention Center.
