Woman arrested for defrauding SC DEW of thousands of dollars

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)—Richland Sheriff Leon Lott and S.C. Department of Employment and Workforce (DEW)  Executive Director William Floyd, announced the arrest of Jennifer Roberts for defrauding DEW of thousands of dollars.

An investigation revealed Roberts had obtained approximately $60,000 in illicit funds after she used false documents to claim she was unemployed due to the Covid pandemic.

Roberts confessed to the crime and turned herself in on May 31.

She is charged with obtaining a signature or property under pretenses of $10,000 or more.
