Gamecock defensive lineman no longer with USC football team

Some significant news from the Gamecock football program broke on Wednesday.

Gamecock defensive lineman Xzavier McLeod is no longer with the South Carolina football team, according to a USC spokesman on Wednesday.

No reason was given for McLeod’s separation from the team.

McLeod was a big-time pickup by the Gamecocks, coming to USC as a four-star prospect out of Camden. He chose the Gamecocks over the Georgia Bulldogs after receiving the coveted South Carolina Mr. Football Award, given annually to the best high school football player in the state.

USC is 2-5 and faces Texas A&M on the road Saturday.
