Benedict ranked first In NCAA Football Region Rankings
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The NCAA has released its first official football rankings for Super Region 2, which will determine the teams advancing to the Division II playoffs, and the Benedict College Tigers are the top-ranked team in the region.
Benedict is the only undefeated team in the region. Benedict is 9-0 against Division II opponents, and also 9-0 against in-region opponents.
Three teams from the Gulf South Conference are behind the Tigers. Delta State is second, Valdosta State is third, and West Florida is fourth. Lenoir-Rhyne from the South Atlantic Conference is fifth, followed by Mars Hill, also from the SAC. Fayetteville State from the CIAA is in seventh.
The rest of the top 10 is West Georgia (Gulf South), Fort Valley State (SIAC) and Virginia Union (CIAA).
Super Region Two is comprised of schools from the SIAC, CIAA, Gulf South Conference and South Atlantic Conference.
The top seven teams in the final region rankings will advance to the NCAA Division II playoffs, which begin Nov. 18. The No. 1 seed will have a bye until the second round on Nov. 25. The first three rounds will be played on campus stadiums, with the national championship set for Dec. 16 in McKinney, Texas.
The official selection show will take place on Sunday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. on NCAA.com.
