Columbia Police: One dead after vehicle crashes into building during two-vehicle collision

Columbia Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene just after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Assembly and Laurel Streets.
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) — One person is pronounced dead after a collision on Saturday night at a Columbia intersection, said the Columbia Police Department.
The collision happened on Assembly and Laurel Streets around 9 p.m.
According to CPD’s Traffic Safety Unit, witnesses saw a driver speeding and running a red light before hitting another vehicle that overturned and crashed into a building.
Both drivers were taken to a nearby hospital and one was later pronounced dead due to injuries caused by the crash, said CPD.
