Newberry County arrests two men accused of armed robbery, attempted murder

NEWBERRY COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Deputies say two Newberry men were arrested in connection with an armed robbery and attempted murder in the Little Ranches Drive area off Highway 34 that occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, November 2, 2023.

The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to a report of an individual being shot during a robbery at a home on Little Ranches Drive.

Deputies say the victim was taken to a hospital in a personal vehicle before being taken to Richland Hospital with a non-life threatening injury to his legs.

During the investigation, witnesses and victims identified three of the four suspects and received information that two of the suspects were at a home on Speers Street in the City of Newberry.

Antonio Malik Washington and Jaywon Tylik Jones were taken into custody for their part of the armed robbery and attempted murder for the  Little Ranches Drive incident.

Deputies say five handguns with extended clips and an AR 15 were located during the search. Also, investigators say they located drugs in the house where two small children were present.

Antonio Malik Washington was presently out on bond for Attempted Murder and had seven active General Session Bench Warrants.

Sheriff Lee Foster says investigators are looking for the third suspect, identified as Daquan Malik Cooper.

“These are cowards who prey on law-abiding citizens placing people in harm’s way or worse.” “We are working very closely with Newberry City Police, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, ATF, and the 8th Judicial Circuit to bring a blanket of protection to our citizens and putting those who can’t obey the law in jail,” said Sheriff Foster.
