Sumter Police: Bond denied for man charged in domestic stabbing

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– The bond for a Sumter man accused of attempted murder in connection with a domestic-related stabbing was denied, said Sumter police.

According to the Sumter Police, Maurice Bhutto Abrams, 51, of Pine Street, was identified as the person who stabbed a 53-year-old woman at a Broad Street business around 7:45 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6.

Detectives say Abrams and the woman had been seeing one another before she ended the relationship.

Also, detectives say the victim started receiving threats from Abrams.

She remains in a hospital and is expected to recover.

He is being charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Officers spotted him on Tuesday, Nov.7 and he tried to run but was arrested and taken to a detention center.

The Sumter Police Department says they are continuing to investigate the stabbing.
