Elderly man identified in fatal structure fire in Saluda Co.

SALUDA CO., S.C. (WOLO) – The Saluda County Coroner’s Office has identified the elderly victim of a structure fire Thursday.
Coroner B. Keith Turner identified the victim as Timothy Smith, 72, of Leesville.
Investigators say around 3:30 a.m., Smith was entrapped in the burning building in the Circle area off Columbia Highway/Highway 378.
The building served as his business and dwelling.
Firefighters were able to get him out and he was immediately flown to the Prisma Health Richland trauma unit but he later died from his injuries that afternoon.
The Coroner’s Office says they’re working with SLED, Saluda County Sheriff’s Office and Saluda County Fire Service to investigate the cause.
