2024 PRESIDENTIAL RACE: RFK Jr. hopes to provide Columbia voters with 3rd party option

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Initially running as a Democratic presidential candidate, last month Robert F. Kennedy Jr. switched to become an independent candidate.

Recent polls have shown that Kennedy is receiving some of the highest support a 3rd party candidate has had in decades.

Tuesday evening, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. held a voter rally in Columbia at Hangar Lofts Events. He spoke about the economic problems many Americans are facing today.

RFK Jr. says much of his support in the polls has come from millennials.

Kennedy says he will restore the American dream if elected and promises to focus on issues such as the environment, chronic disease and home ownership. RFK Jr. says if elected, he would work towards promoting renewable energy, rebuilding the middle class and would oppose foreign wars.

The biggest challenge for Kennedy now is making sure he is on the ballot in all states. The nephew of the 35th president hopes to be an Independent voice for Americans and some voters are ready to give him the chance.

The last time a 3rd party candidate won a state in a presidential election was George Wallace back in 1968.
