Pet of the Week: Amity & Albany
COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)- Meet Amity & Albany! These special bonded kitties are looking for their forever home through Pawmetto Lifeline.
This brother-sister duo are about 3 months old and had a rough start to life. When they came in to the shelter at just a few weeks old, Albany suffered from an eye condition that left him blind. Amity is and has been his seeing-eye cat! She helps her brother explore new places and boost his confidence level, and Albany doesn’t let his disability bother him at all!
Pawmetto Lifeline officials say Amity and Albany must be adopted together, and they can be in any home. “Cats with disabilities can live perfectly normal lives. We just suggest that if you have a cat who has a visual impairment, that you start them out in one room, one at a time so they can learn to explore, get the lay of the land, and then start gradually expanding their adventurous area,” says Pawmetto Lifeline’s Helen Cotton.
Midlands shelters are at the tail end of kitten season, but Pawmetto Lifeline still has 140 kittens still in foster care, and about 70 on site ready to find their forever homes. Officials are urging residents to spay and neuter your pets to help keep the homeless pet population down.
If you’re ready to adopt, all kittens under 4 months old at Pawmetto Lifeline are $100. Visit Amity & Albany at 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia SC 29212.
