Rebels seize Israeli linked cargo ship taking crew members hostage

(CNN) — Yemen’s Houthi rebels seized an Israeli-linked cargo ship in a crucial red sea shipping route Sunday, in the process taking its 25 crew members hostage.

The rebels said they hijacked the ship over its connection to israel and would continue to target ships in international waters that were linked to or owned by Israelis until the end of Israel’s campaign against Gaza’s Hamas rulers.

Leaders are now calling for the release of the crew while they try prevent further conflict from spilling out to the sea.

Israeli leaders insist the ship is British owned and operated by a Japanese company.
and officials say there are no Israelis onboard.
