Veteran opens restaurant in downtown Columbia, providing opportunities to homeless
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– There is a new restaurant in Downtown Columbia on Main Street.
Sunrise Cafe is not only a place to enjoy food and drinks but it also provides employment opportunities for unsheltered individuals.
Veteran and owner Johnny Davis says he has made mistakes and faced many challenges in life including serving time in prison, being homeless, and drug addiction.
After overcoming these obstacles he is using his experience to help others.
He says he hopes his employees will see their jobs as a stepping stone towards regaining their independence and thriving in life.
In addition to a paycheck, Johnny says each employee gets a free meal during their shifts.
