COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Not only is it the season for shopping but it is also the season for giving, and Giving Tuesday is the perfect day for anyone to give back. Giving Tuesday is a day for giving back to the community after the shopping rush of Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Organizers say the movement began in New York six years ago as a way to bring people together to give and now it has grown into a global effort.

Last year, organizers say more than 2.7 billion dollars was raised online in just 24 hours in the U.S. alone.

Here are some local organizations asking community members for support on Giving Tuesday:

Girl, Get Up Society  The nonprofit took to social media to spread the word of their campaign for Giving Tuesday. The organization created services that help women and girls access therapy, self-care, and support services they need to manage conditions such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), postpartum depression, and suicide ideation.
