RCSD: Deputies investigating assault at detention center

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The Richland County Sheriff’s Department says they are investigating an assault that occurred at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center on Saturday, Nov. 25.

Deputies say they responded around 5:30 p.m. to the detention center where a 40-year-old detainee had been attacked by multiple other detainees.

A report says that after the victim used the restroom, a detainee was attacked by one other detainee and immediately after, others joined in on the assault.

The man sustained injuries to the face, head, and arms and was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The report of this assault comes after the U.S. Justice Department announced they are opening an investigation into the conditions at the jail.

Also, the assault report comes after multiple stabbings and a recent riot and fire.
