19th annual Sweet Seasons event lights up Forest Acres community

FOREST ACRES, SC (WOLO) — Each year, more and more people come out to Forest Acres’ most popular holiday event.

Tuesday evening from 5 to 8, residents came out to enjoy all kinds of entertainment at the 19th annual Sweet Seasons event despite the chilly weather.

“It began in the back of city hall with a handful of people. It’s grown to thousands of people,” said Forest Acres mayor Tom Andrews. “We’ve expanded our space this year. I think it looks fabulous.”

The event packed out the Lowe’s Food parking lot with tons of fun for the whole family.

“It’s really the start of the holiday season in Forest Acres. We’ve doubled our event space,” said Forest Acres councilman Stephen Oliver. “It’s a great community event that brings our neighbors together to light our Christmas tree and kick off the season.”

The event featured live music, a tree lighting, entertainment for kids and more.

“We’ve pictures with Santa. We’ve got the Grinch. Plenty of local food and vendors and drinks for the adults,” Oliver said. “Lowe’s Foods is giving out free hot chocolate. It’s a super family friendly event tonight.”

“It’s all about community,” the mayor said. “We have vendors who are all local serving us. We also have Palmetto Performing Arts and Legacy Martial Arts here. “From Thanksgiving to Christmas to Hanukkah… it’s an opportunity to gather together.”

Forest Acres’ mayor hopes more opportunities to gather for Forest Acres’ 10 thousand residents will happen with the creation of new community space.

“We have a new park opening and another in plans,” Andrews said. “We want to create space for people and think this is a great opportunity for that.”
