Lawsuit claims Meta collected children’s data
CNN- Newly unsealed court documents allege Meta collected data from children’s Instagram accounts.
Attorneys General from 33 states including South Carolina accuse the tech giant of receiving more than a million reports of under-13 users on Instagram from 2019-2023.
They say Meta knowingly refused to shut down a majority of these accounts.
The Lawsuit alleges Meta collected the children’s personal information without the parent’s consent.
The states are calling for the court to prohibit Meta from these practices and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars in civil penalties.
