Thanksgiving holiday period saw record numbers of shoppers, but not record spending
More shoppers during holiday, but less spending
CNN– A record number of people may have shopped until they dropped over the holiday weekend but they also spent less.
According to data released by the National Retail Federation on Tuesday, roughly 200.4 million people shopped for Thanksgiving Day through Cyber Monday.
Compare that to the 196.7 million people who shopped during the same time period last year.
Also, the data shows that about 134 million people shopped online while roughly 121 million shoppers went into a physical store.
However, the retail trade group says that shoppers spent an average of four dollars less than last year.
