SC Senate District 19 candidates participate in town hall ahead of special election

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– When Senator John Scott passed away earlier this year it forced District 19 to hold a special election to fill the vacant seat.

The four candidates for senator spoke with voters at a forum held on the Columbia campus of Lenoir-Rhyne on Tuesday, Nov.15.

Former Councilwoman and Democratic Nominee Tameika Isaac Devine faces off against Republican Kizzie Smalls, along with independents Chris Nelums and Michael Addison.

The candidates were asked a series of questions such as raising the minimum wage, censorship, health care, and education.

District 19 voters will head to the polls to elect a new senator on Jan. 2, 2024.
