First day of Hanukkah begins

(CNN) — Tonight is the first day of Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights holiday featuring the menorah and eight days of celebration.

It’s also known as the Feast of Dedication and Feast of the Maccabees.
Hanukkah, which is Hebrew for “dedication,” is one of the most popular Jewish religious observances.

The holiday celebrates the rededication of the second temple of Jerusalem in 164 B.C.
