County councils approve bond to help fund zoo expansion
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– Riverbanks Zoo and Garden will receive public and private help with the completion of phase two of its ‘Bridge to the Wild’ project.
Zoo officials say a bond supporting the project has been approved by both the Richland and Lexington County councils.
According to the zoo, the project will include a primate forest, a new restaurant and an aerial tram system among other enhancements.
In total the zoo says the project will increase the zoo’s total economic impact on the Midlands to more than 175 million dollars a year.
