20 people facing federal charges for trafficking illegal guns

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– 20 people are facing federal charges for trafficking illegal guns in the Midlands due to an undercover operation.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, operation ‘Westbound and Down’ involved multiple agencies and resulted in the seizure of hundreds of firearms.

As well as thousands of pills and hundreds of grams of cocaine, meth and fentanyl.

Most of the arrests have taken place in the past 30 days but those behind the operation say it first began in October of last year.

Of the 20 individuals arrested, 8 were out on bond and 7 were on probation.
