Sumter County deputies rescue person trapped inside burning home

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies rescued a person who was trapped inside a burning home, said the sheriff’s office.

On Dec 13, the sheriff’s office received a report of a house fire near Alcott Drive early that morning.

When two deputies arrived at the scene they found the home almost engulfed in flames, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies found a resident of the home that directed them to the back yard where another resident was at a back window attempting to help a trapped resident escape through a window.

The resident and a deputy helped the other resident escape from the home and got him to safety.

The individual suffered serious burns, said deputies.

One of the deputies at the scene who is also a medic with the SC Army National Guard started rendering aid and assisted EMS until the man was taken to the Air Medical Evacuation Team, officials said.

Three people were able to escape the fire, but three did not.

The fire is under investigation.
