SC receives D- for gun safety laws

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– South Carolina is not making the grade when it comes to preventing gun violence.

According to a survey by the Gifford Law Center, South Carolina received a D- for failing to pass strong legislation that saves lives from gun violence.

The center’s annual gun law scorecard grades and ranks each state on the strength of its gun laws.

According to the group’s website, more than a thousand people die in South Carolina each year because of gun violence.

In SLED’s 2022 crime report, the state saw a decrease in both violent crime and murder rates.

Also, the state saw an increase in weapon law violations.
