Coroner identifies man dead after early morning Christmas Eve collision
LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– One person is dead after an early morning two-vehicle collision in Lexington County on Christmas Eve, said the coroner’s office.
According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, Dwane Zedekiah Sturkie, 77, of Columbia was the individual who died after a collision in the 1100 block of Main Street in the South Congaree around 1:00 a.m. on Dec. 24.
Officials say Sturkie was driving eastbound on Main Street when a vehicle traveling westbound crossed the center line and hit him head-on.
He was taken a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead due to the injuries he received during the accident.
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The South Congaree Police Department and the Lexington County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the collision.
