SC family receives $900k after man dies following alleged catheter misplacement
(CNN)– A South Carolina family won a wrongful death lawsuit against an Orangeburg hospital after their loved one died from an alleged catheter misplacement.
The family of 27-year-old Irvin Kenly received a $900 hundred thousand payout last month.
According to the lawsuit, in November of 2017, Kenly went to the Regional Medical Center with nausea and abdominal pain.
Officials say he was found to have diabetic keto-acidosis.
The lawsuit also states, at the direction of the doctor a nurse tried to put a catheter into Kenly’s external jugular vein but it was placed incorrectly into an artery.
This lead to Kenly having strokes and his death, said the lawsuit.
The hospital has not responded for comment.
