Fireworks ordinances in the Midlands
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– As everyone gets ready for the New Year, some people may be thinking about celebrating with fireworks.
For anyone lighting up the sky for 2024, here is a list of firework ordinances in the Midlands.
LEXINGTON COUNTY
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department posted on social media about the county’s new fireworks ordinance that will effect the area.
The sheriff’s department says there is a new fireworks ordinance that will make time limits and restrictions in the unincorporated areas of Lexington County.
According to deputies, fireworks cannot be shot after 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1.
Anyone seen by deputies shooting fireworks after 12:30 a.m. could receive a noise ordinance violation ticket, which carries a fine of $150.
RICHLAND COUNTY
Richland County officials say fireworks may be used until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
A violation of the ordinance is punishable by a civil penalty of up to: $500 for a 1st offense, $750 for a 2nd offense and $1,000 for a 3rd or subsequent offense.

WEST COLUMBIA
Fireworks can only be discharged from 9 a.m. on December 31 through 1:30 a.m. on January 1, 2024.
