Richland County releases 2023 crime stats

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The Richland County Sheriff’s Department released crime statistics for 2023 on Friday.

The department saw a decrease in homicides with 27 last year compared to 37 in 2022.

The department made 31 arrests for murder and several other charges.

They say the decrease is attributed to having more deputies on the streets, advanced technology and having their own forensic lab.

Sheriff Lott also announced his plans on running for re-election this year.
