Pet of the Week: Navy!

COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)- Meet Navy! This sweet, beautiful 1-year-old brindle girl is looking for her ‘furever’ home through Columbia Animal Services.

Navy was found as a stray in the beginning of December. She is very timid and shut down in the shelter environment, but is making progress through the help of staff and volunteers. Navy does not have a mean bone in her body! She is so sweet, well-mannered, calm, and affectionate despite her nerves. She loves pets, and gives gentle kisses.

Through the shelter’s Slumber Buddies program, Navy had the chance to break out of the shelter and into a volunteer’s home for the night to decompress. She was an amazing house guest! She slept great in her crate over night, didn’t have any accidents, enjoyed laying on the couch and chewing a bone, and is very dog friendly. She loves treats and takes them gently. She even knows how to sit!

Navy does need encouragement in new spaces and on the leash as she learns how to be a pet! It seems she would do great in a loving and patient home, with older kids and other dogs to help her learn the ropes and adjust. She will make a wonderful companion for any adopter!

Navy is available for adoption for just $1 for the month of January! She is already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. If you’re not quite ready to adopt, Navy is also eligible for the shelter’s Adoption Ambassador program which allows her to be in a foster home with the intent of getting them into their forever homes.
