Forest Acres officer recovering in hospital after traffic accident
FOREST ACRES, S.C. (WOLO)– The Forest Acres Police Department says an officer is recovering in a hospital after being injured in a traffic accident in Forest Acres.
The departments say the accident happened around 12:50 p.m. on Sunday involving a FAPD patrol vehicle and a white Volvo SUV on Trenholm Rd at Lakeview Circle.
The officer who was stuck inside his vehicle was able to safely be extracted by Columbia-Richland fighters.
“We want to thank the Columbia Fire Department for the swift response to pull our injured officer from the vehicle so that he could be evaluated for treatment,” says FAPD Chief Don Robinson.
He was then taken to a nearby hospital by EMS.
The other driver was not seriously injured and remained at the scene, say the department.
“I have been at the hospital to see our officer and I am thankful to report his injuries are not life threatening. We will do what we can to support him as he recovers,” says Chief Robinson.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol was called to investigate.
