COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A jail guard at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center was arrested on Tuesday, says the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Antiona Walker is accused of knowingly and unlawfully committing misconduct in office.

Investigators said on Jan. 4, they received a report from a supervisor at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center about a corrections officer that was caught bringing in contraband to the jail.

In the report it states that Officer Walker left her place of duty without the supervisor’s knowledge.

When Officer Walker returned to the facility, she was taken away from the break-room and searched in the supervisor’s office.

During the search, a second supervisor went into the break-room where they located several bags of chips and a fountain drink cup, which was in the procession of Officer Walker, said investigators.

The search of the chips revealed a pack of Newport cigarettes in each bag and the smell of alcohol emitting from the fountain drink cup.

Deputies said the supervisor conducted an interview with Officer Walker where she admitted to bringing in the cigarettes and she provided a written statement claiming ownership of taking the contraband to the jail.

Walker will be booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
