Cantaloupe salmonella outbreak over

(CNN)– A salmonella outbreak linked to cantaloupe is now over according to an announcement on Friday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 400 people became sick in 44 states, including South Carolina where ten cases were reported that led to 158 hospitalizations and 6 deaths nationwide.

The malchita and ruby brand cantaloupes were sold at a number of retailers, including QuikTrip, Kroger and Trader Joe’s between September and December of last year.

The Food and Drug Administration warms anyone who may have put cantaloupe products in the freezer should check if they were part of the recall.

And if people are not sure, they should throw out the cantaloupe to be safe.
