Lexington County, SC (WOLO) — The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department wants residents, and those who may be planning to drive in the area to be aware of upcoming closures for several railroad crossings. According to authorities, multiple railroad crossings throughout the Midlands will temporarily be closed as they work on maintenance and repairs that are set to begin Monday, January 29 2024.

The routine maintenance work was announced by CSX Transportation at the beginning of the month. According to officials, the transportation team with CSX will begin repairs in Richland County Monday January 29. Then the company says they will work their way northwest through Lexington and Newberry Counties.  All maintenance and repairs are slated to be completed no later than March 8.
CSX tells those who will be going through any of the affected areas that after the railroad has been closed it will remain shut down anywhere from three to five days depending on the location, and work that needs to be done. CSX says any crossings that are located in a “one way in/out” area where homes are positioned behind it will be completed within 12 hours. According to the transportation company in order to complete the necessary repairs, and or maintenance they have to implement a “total closure”. This means, no traffic will be allowed to cross the track until work has been completely finished. Detours will be put in place for anyone who is traveling in these areas.
