SC Highway Patrol investigating deputy involved crash
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a deputy involved crash, said SCSO.
According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, a Sumter County deputy saw a vehicle with an expired decal going south on North Main Street.
Once the deputy confirmed the decal was expired, the deputy attempted to make a traffic stop by activating the patrol vehicle’s blue lights.
Deputies said the vehicle with the expired tag turned right onto North Pike and a passenger with raised hands exited the vehicle.
A state trooper who was also at the scene detained the passenger as the car continued to flee.
Sumter deputies said Christopher Eaddy circled through a yard and returned to North Pike and turned left on North Main Street.
During the continued chase Eaddy lost control of the vehicle and crashed resulting in his death, said SCSO.
Also deputies said he was driving a stolen vehicle, had multiple driving offenses, and had an arrest warrant from Kershaw County.
