Newly released documents show the NSA buys Americans’ internet data
(CNN)– Newly released documents show the National Security Agency buys internet data of Americans without warrants.
The disclosure came from recent, newly unclassified letters made public by Senator Ron Wyden of Orgeon.
Officials say NSA has been buying web browsing data from commercial data brokers.
Including information about the websites Americans visit and the apps they use.
Paul Nakaso, the NSA’s director at the time wrote the data does not contain the content of communications.
He said the NSA does not buy cellphone location data or location data generated by car infotainment systems in the U.S.
The NSA confirmed in a statement it buys data from private vendors.
