Sumter Police: 1 dead, 2 injured after 2 separate shootings

SUMTER, S.C. (WOLO)– The Sumter Police Department is investigating two separate shootings over the weekend, one of which resulted in a death.

According to Sumter Police, the body of 35-year-old Westley Rodregus Vaughn was found after officers received a suspicious person call at about 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Vaughn, who was shot multiple times was found outside on Carver Street.

Investigations say he was last seen late Saturday walking from his home to a nearby convenience store.

Vaughn’s autopsy is scheduled.

In another incident, officers were in route to a shots fired call after 10 p.m. on Saturday when two shooting victims were dropped off at a hospital.

Investigators say the 21-year-old and the 23-year-old men said they were walking in the Purdy Street, South Guignard area when they were hit by gunfire.

Both of the men are expected to recover and both incidents remain under investigation.
