European airline carrier experiments with weighing passengers at check in

(CNN) — If you’ve ever held your breath while your luggage is being weighed at an airline check-in then you’re gonna love this one.
You will now be weighed.

Some brave passengers are doing just that, as part of a trial by European carrier Finn-Air at its Helsinki Airport hub. The volunteers weigh in at the departure gate, which allows the airline to refine its weight estimates for planes before take-off. Finn-Air says only the staff member at the gate can see the actual number. The experiment started Monday, and has already gotten eight hundred volunteers.

The airline said it’s hoping to get four hundred more during the winter season and will continue the trial through the Summer. Finn-Air said both seasons are needed due to the heavier clothing worn during Finland’s cold Winters.
