American Heart Association pushing for passing of SC Smart Heart Act

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The American Heart Association is pushing for the passing of a new bill by South Carolina lawmakers.

The South Carolina Smart Heart Act would require schools to have a Cardiac Emergency Response Plan and the telecommunication CPR training for 911 dispatchers.

More specifically the bill would require clearly marked AED’s to be at or within minutes of each high school athletic venue where games or practices are held.

Representatives from the NFL joined the association on the steps of the State House on Wednesday, Feb.14.

They say after the live saving response of Buffalo Bill Safety Demar Hamlin’s injury, they’ve been supporting the use AED’s at schools.
