Orangeburg Co.: 2 truckers arrested for stealing fuel at local business

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WOLO)– Two more truckers have been arrested for stealing fuel at a local business in Orangeburg County, says deputies.

According to the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Department, 38-year-old Alberto Perdigon of Tampa, Florida, and 39-year-old Robert Garcia of Las Vegas, Nevada, are both charged with criminal conspiracy; breaking into motor vehicle or tanks, pumps where fuel lubricants are stored; malicious injury to personal property; and petit larceny.

“This has been an in-depth investigation that is putting people behind bars,” says Sheriff Leroy Ravenell.

Previously, two Florida truckers were arrested on similar charges after they were caught altering fuel pumps to receive more fuel than the price they were charged.

Investigators say a tip resulted in the arrest of all four men.

Orangeburg County Sheriff’s investigators say they learned that fuel companies from Florida to Virginia have been targeted by these fuel thefts.

“These individuals may have thought they would be in and out of Orangeburg County in a few minutes but they’re here to stay for a while,” Sheriff Ravenell said.
