State troopers: 1 injured, 1 dead after driver attempts to avoid law enforcement
RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– One person was injured and another is dead after a driver was trying to avoid law enforcement, said SCHP.
Highway Patrol said the collision happened on Legrand Road, 10 miles north of Columbia around 12:20 a.m. on Thursday, Feb.22.
A Nissan SUV driver was trying to avoid law enforcement while traveling west on Legrand Road when the vehicle went off the right side of the road, hit a ditch and overturned.
One person in the vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital and the other person was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford, Jamal M. Gibson, 30, of Columbia, S.C. was the person died Thursday morning.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
